Write for Thrash Magazine

Are you a huge fan of metal, hardcore or punk? Are you interested in having your opinion heard while helping the community as well? Thrash Magazine is always interested in finding creative, talented and above all dedicated writers to join the great staff we already have. We definitely don't have a shortage of people interested in writing for us, but only a few can above all be committed and write professionally. If you have the skill sets, we are interested in having you on our staff! Experience is good, but not necessary.

What we need:

- We need writers with a background in the genre. Someone just joining the scene might be a solid writer, but you will not have the tools necessary to write about metal as a whole.
- We need people with broad tastes. We don't expect everyone to love metal, hardcore and punk, but we need you fluent in the a lot of the sub-genres of the scene you appreciate. It is better for us and you to not review stuff you just don't like because of the genre, so knowing your couple is that much more important.
- We need people extremely interested in the scene. We don't necessarily need "experts", but more so people willing to learn with a strong background.
- Commitment. Writing for Thrash Magazine has a monthly quota. The current quota is 4 reviews per month, we also appreciate writers to contribute occasionally to the articles, show reviews and interview areas as well. We need people passionate to the scene with drive.
- Long Term Commitment. We would like people willing to dedicate a year to this. If you are having troubles, getting married or extremely busy, maybe this isn't the time to join the staff (We are always looking). However, coming aboard for 1 month and then disappearing is pointless for us and you. This is a volunteer position (we don't make money, you wont either), but you will get an opportunity to listen to some FREE music (good and bad), go to shows to review/interview bands and more importantly express your ideas to the metal community.

What we DON't need:

- Elitists. We want you to be openminded while writing for us. Turning someone on to great music is one thing, bashing everything else not in your personal collection is another.
- Agendas. We aren't looking for people to explain in every review about how pop punk would sound so much better if it was uber-depressing doom rap. No one reading the review you posted will give a shit about it or want to read it.
Laziness. If you don't want to help us, just don't apply, continue being a great reader (we thank you so much), but if you aren't committed, Thrash Magazine is not interested.

Still interested? Here is what you need to do:

Compose three sample reviews of any album of your choosing (preferably newer ones so they could be used). The reviews should match the length of Thrash Magazine current reviews (3/4 a page to 2 pages in Word) as well and please use our scoring system (more on this below). One review should be a good album, one an ok release and one a bad album, this will give us an idea of how you handle each portion of the spectrum.

Email those three sample reviews or any questions you might have to don.alcombright@thrashmag.com with the subject line "Thrash Magazine Application." Without the subject, your email probably will be missed.

Keep in mind, most of us started out as just a fan of the genre before this got going. I (Don) have been doing this since 1998 when I was 14 and I am still learning something new everyday. We're no different than you, so don't be intimidated to start writing for the music you love. We are looking forward to hearing from you, and if you decided against writing for us, plese continue reading Thrash Magazine, without that community we wouldn't exist.
