I was driving home from the grocery store today when I heard on the radio people talking about how Serj Tankian "Totally ripped off his sound from 'System Of A Down'". People were calling in and talking shit about it and what not. I won't deny that the sound is basically the same, but how can you knock someone for ripping off sound from their own band? The biggest reason that it sounds so similar is because it is Serj Tankian doing the vocals. He has probably the most distinctive voice in Rock. What was he supposed to do, start singing boy-band melodies? "...Our fear of death is what kills us."

I agree most people are morons. That is why the general world is stupid. Serj has an amazing voice, that like you said will sound just like this...all the time, no matter what band he is in,

That's stupid. How can you rip off yourself? Anyway, I agree that the main similarity is the voice. The songwriting is kind of similar to SOAD, but if you removed the vocals from Serj's album and a SOAD album, I think most would be able to tell the difference. Yes it was funny because they took a call from some guy who has been playing in different bands for years and he said something like "When I leave a band and try to start something new I would NEVER rip-off my old band's sound". Because he has such a successful career as a musician that he knows better than Serj what he should do - ya right. "...Our fear of death is what kills us."
