Seriously...the only reason religion is around is because people got used to it. When the Roman Catholic church first startedit was all about "Oh! Pay indulgences for your sins and you'll be forgiven!" What a bunch of horse shit. People had no direction in their lives and just wanted somehting to believe in so they thought this whole scam was legitemate. When the Reformation of the church came around and people stopped paying for forgiveness they just got used to the whole religion idea and it became a part of tradition. The church was really only around as a way to gain power over the state. The Bible is just a bunch of stories written by a bunch of bored dudes a long time ago. They had nothing better to do. It was either write...or play with sand. Besides everything has to come from something else. If there IS some supreme "god" where did it come from? It didn't just show up. "Hey...I guess I'm God now...let's start makin' shit." Doesn't make sense at all. I'm not suggesting the Big Bang Theory is what people should believe in. I honestly don't know how everything got started, but some god doesn't seem plausible at all.

Well I don't really want to take a side in the whole religion debate but let me say that I am personally and atheist. That said, I can still appreciate that religion was (and still continues to be) a good way to motivate people to coexist with each other. The values that the catholic and christian churches teach are a good set of moral guidelines and without them the world would probably be a crappier place to live in. So I guess what I am saying is that I agree with what you say but I still think religion is a good thing, if that makes any sense. "...Our fear of death is what kills us."

You make a good point and I can see where you're coming from. Religion has certainly made people better as a whole. I guess I was a little critical of it because religion was kind what I was brought up with and expected to follow, which I no longer do.

I'm on the same boat as you. I was baptized and raised a Roman Catholic. I went to CCD (basically Sunday school) all the way up until I was old enough to say no. I dropped out right before confirmation. 2 things that they did that made me leave and never look back. One day in CCD we all had to watch a catholic propaganda movie about how gay people are all going to burn in hell and how they invented aids and are the root of all evil in the earth. 2nd thing was that my priest always kreeped me out. Years later he had to resign due to the scandal surrounding his child molestation lawsuit... Fucking pervert. But ya, I respect whatever path people chose to follow as long as they leave me out of it. "...Our fear of death is what kills us."

I'm glad this site has a forum where you can express ideas about touchy subjects and not get a hundred posts telling you you're an idiot. I appreciate the fact that you can discuss things here freely without hassle.

While I can see your point, blindeyehalo, you must think that there0 is something else out there.
I mean, The Big Bang Theory is the biggest load of bullshit.
Although saying a man who has always been around created everything sounds equally outrageous.
But look at it this way;
Look around, something made all this, and for a reason.
Things just don't occur without a cause. And I find it extremely hard to believe that all of this is an accident.
Think of miracles (trust me, sometimes there are miracles, you just have to look at things differently) think about luck and think about some things in this world that are truly too good to be true.
(Ready for gayness? Here we go.) Think about loving someone. Whether it be a girlfriend, boyfriend, father or friend. That feeling just goes to show you that if the world is accidental, that means those feelings are accidental.
Once again, there's no way something that real and warm is accidental.
Someone or something else is out there, maybe even here. But I know for a fact that this life isn't all that is in store for us.
You just need to be optimistic and keep an eye open to help notice some things that assure you that theres no way everything we know and see was made by a 'Big Bang.'
Think.

I bet you learned your name in under a week.
No?
I'll try underestimating you a little more.
And don't try insulting me back, you'll need the breath to blow up your date for tonight.

I wouldn't say that the world is an accident as much as it is just an inevitable coincidence in an infinate universe. Haha that sounds totally dorky too. At any rate whatever happened that created it I am definitely grateful for so I really don't care either way. "...Our fear of death is what kills us."
