Lets discuss... Check them out and let me know what you think. Box of Needles is the new material, the rest is the old stuff. Personally, they are one of my favorite bands. http://thrashmag.com/articles/content.aspx?id=833

I am curious as to what the rest of their new material will sound like and will have to hold off on judgment until I do. The main reason that I was a fan of their old stuff was because of the raw brutality of the lyrics and music, which appears to be lacking in the new song. The vocals are much cleaner. The guitars are more melodic than chaotic: there is some tempo changes on the new song, apparently the only link to the old guitar sound. There wasn't a single breakdown :( In this "transformation" of theirs they have basically lost their identity to me. But I have only sampled the one song they have posted on their myspace, perhaps the others will be different.

I don't know...I am not a fan of "breakdowns" so I guess that aspect isn't lost to me. I am fan of more technicality and precision, which I feel the new song has. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite lines ever are "Dig A Ditch, Bury the Bitch" or "Who's the fucking faggot now" but I also like the mature side of this band.

Do you know if the lyrics to the new song have been posted anywhere? I'm curious.

After listening to the old songs and then the new song I guess you can make the argument that the new song is more technical (although I would debate that about the guitar work). These guys have gone through multiple guitarists iirc so I wonder if they are still using the one who originally did the songs on the old cd... At any rate I don't think that you would deny that a very large part of Elysia's identity was its brutality and straightforwardness in their lyrics. The new song is a step in a new direction that sounds nothing like their older work that they built their fan base off of. So the real question is can Elysia create a unique sound and define themselves again with the new music?

As a side note I was watching "Gans of New York" last night and noticed that they took two quotes from the movie (playing the movie soundclips). In Swine "The nearest thing in nature to the flesh of a man is the flesh of a pig" and In another song (forget the title now) "Thats what preserves the order of things... fear." I just thought it was funny to be reminded of these guys twice during this movie the other night.

"Another’s reality exhausted all your dreams – I’ll scatter your ashes on television screens - Quit living on the edge of your seat when you can live soaring off your feet. Stress, take time to shake it off – lethargic, gotta work it off. (Are you dipping your hands in the box of needles) Cause once you do, you can’t take it back – Your hands will ache till you can’t grasp the fact – That once you do, you can’t take it back – Too numb to itch because your hope turned black. The scenes change but life stays the same – At the crown of the flame you’re still just a name – Quit living chained to your seat when you can break free and flourish on your feet. Betrayer, turn it off – They wanna kill us off. Are you dipping your hand in the box of needles? – Cause once you do, nothing stays gold – Strangers are dangers for you to extol – You sold your heart to the beast ablaze – There’s no hope for better days. No faith and no hope. Mindless – Gutless – Heartless - Loveless"

I remember seeing these guys mentioned on this site before. Just so I have an idea, what other bands would you say they compare to?

they are a deathcore act, but truly no one....some of the reference they give on their myspace are: "botch, refused, rise and fall, cursed, converge, mind eraser, rage against the machine, isis, die young, bracewar, and many others!"
